Will my back pain get better?
Majority of back pain is muscular and is either due to poor posture, weak muscle or an acute injury. If after careful assessment no significant spinal issue is found, then it is very likely that the current episode of back pain will get better.
Will I keep having back pain for the rest of my life?
Muscular back pain is common, and people do experience frequent flare up. The key to preventing and managing back pain is to engage in physical rehabilitation under the supervision of a trained physiotherapist and make changes to day-to-day routines, such as engaging in regular exercise, stretching, yoga and Pilates. No one action can eliminate the risk of further flare-ups but engaging in healthy lifestyle modification can decrease the frequency and severity of back pain episode.
Is my back pain result of spinal infection?
Spinal infection such as discitis and spondylodiscitis are rare cause of back pain. If you are getting pain especially in night, noticed sweating or being unwell along with back pain then it may be a sign of infection. Please clearly report any symptom of fever, sweat, lethargy and malaise to Mr Ahmad so blood test and MRI can be organised to exclude spinal infection.
Is my back pain due to spinal stenosis?
Spinal stenosis generally causes back pain along with pain in the buttocks and legs. Patients usually report pins and needles, numbness, pain and occasionally weakness inthe legs. Isolated back pain may be a sign of spinal stenosis especially if it gets worse on standing and walking and gets better on sitting and bending over.
Is my back pain sign of cancer?
Cancer can rarely present as back pain. The vast majority of people who present with back pain do not have cancer however you are at higher risk if you have a previous history of cancer. Please clearly report any previous history of cancer to Mr Ahmad even if you have been cured and have not had any follow-up for cancer. You will also need a full investigation if you have noticed any unexplained weight loss, pain in the thoracic region, or pain that is severe and worse at night.
